Are you ever tempted to say to your child, “Why can’t you behave more like Ashley or Johnny?” Stop. Breath. And Think. Think about what you don’t know about them. Two-and-a-half-old Ashley might still wake up several times at night. Johnny’s mother probably finds her alarm clock disassembled and or broken. Think about the message you are sending to your own child. “Johnny and Ashley are good children and they are better than you, kid.” No reasonable parent truly believes someone else’s children are better than their own. Make sure your kids know you think they are the best. The next time they act up, stop, breath and think about what makes them special and find a way to tell them.
