Mommy/Daddy Thought - August 30th
Let your kids solve some of their own problems, say Jim Fay and Charles Fay PhD in Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood. As parents we feel it is our duty to fix anything that goes wrong with our children. If Sally gets a bad grade in math, then we should go to the teacher and ask how the grade could be raised. If Charlie breaks a window while playing baseball, we should pay for the window so that Charlie won’t get into trouble.
When Sally and Charlie become adults, nobody will be there to pay the fees on bounced checks or to pay the fines for parking tickets. There will be no second chances if they decide to drink and drive and get into a fatal car wreck. Allowing our children to suffer some consequences of their mistakes when they are young, will be a lot less painful for them than when they are adults.
